ADIRONDACK MECHANICAL CORPORATION CLOSES OUT THE MONTH OF APRIL WITH A REGULAR SHOW AT FONDA
By: Ron Szczerba
FONDA, NY – This Saturday, April 25, Adirondack Mechanical Corporation will present a regular show in all regular divisions at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway including the Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds, the Swagger Factory Apparel Sportsman, the Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stocks, the Montgomery County Office for Aging Limited Sportsman, and the Fonda Fair Four Cylinders.
Race night sponsor Adirondack Mechanical Corporation is a full-service plumbing, heating, and air conditioning company located in Broadalbin, NY.
The Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series (MVVDMS) will kick off their 2026 season at the “Track of Champions" this Saturday with New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) Night. As of this press release, the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series has 44 beautiful cars committed to the event that will take fans back a step in time.
Five divisions will represent the many eras of our racing past including the Antique, Mystique, Sportsman, Late Model and Modified Divisions. It will be the series’ first points race for the five divisions, which means the Northeast Stock Car Old Timers (NESCOT) club will once again support the series with eight NESCOT members receiving cash bonuses.
The MVVDMS organization will have five-year-old Allie Corbett as the series trophy girl at all of their events at the Fonda Speedway. Kenny Marshall, son of the legendary Paul Marshall, will also be flagging all four of the MVVDMS features.
MVVDMS NYSSCA Awards on Saturday at Fonda will be paid out as follows:
The first driver across the finish line that is a NYSSCA member will receive $100.00 in each division.
The second driver across the line that is a NYSSCA member will receive $75.00 in each division.
There will also be one $50.00 Wild Card Award given out to a driver that is a NYSSCA member.
Along with the cash bonus, each winning driver will also receive a NYSSCA hat that was made by MVVDMS very own sponsor Driven Design & Embroidery.
LOOKING BACK TO THIS DATE ONE YEAR AGO AT FONDA
Last year on 4/24/25, Stewart Friesen won the Amsterdam Truck Center Modified feature event, which for 2025 was opening day with the running of “12A Opening Day”. Friesen took the lead on lap 17 from Cody Clark who led the first 16 laps and held off second place finisher Matt Sheppard for the win. For Friesen it was his 95th career win at Fonda.
“The track was smokin’ fast, as fast as I’ve ever seen it,” Friesen said. “During intermission they brought the top back to life. We were a little bit off in the heat race but then the track just changed a lot as the sun went down and we were able to keep up with it.”
“I grew up idolizing Jack (Johnson), David (Lape) and your dad, Mimi (Lou Lazzaro),” Friesen continued to say in victory lane. “It is just special to be here; you never know when the last win will come so we will savor all the ones that we can get and savor this one for sure.”
One year ago in the Swagger Factory Apparel Sportsman division, Brett Mortensen led the first nine laps of the feature event with Dylan Madsen taking the lead away on lap 10 and going on to his first career win in the division at Fonda over Mortensen who ended up second.
“Finally, it’s been a long time coming,” Madsen said after the win. “We didn’t get one last year but happy that we could get it done this year. Last year I definitely didn’t make the right calls with lap cars and that screwed us out of a couple of wins. I’m happy that didn’t happen tonight.”
“It was a clean race, I know that whenever I see Brett (Mortensen) or his brother Mark you’re gonna have a clean race with them,” Madsen continued to say. “Once I got into second in the clean air, we tried the top and it was definitely working. I didn’t have to lift at all; it was just a matter of keeping the tires underneath me and not spinning them.”
In the Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stock division feature last year, Kenny Gates took the lead from Luke Horning on lap 10 and led the remaining ten laps for his 99th career win in the division. Nick Stone was the early race leader until Horning got by for the lead on lap 10, but that was brief as Gates was able to get under both cars for the lead.
“I was definitely in the right place at the right time,” Gates told Mimi Lazzaro about his pass for the lead. “I was a little lucky with this one as they (Stone and Horning) were both fast. After I got the lead, I moved up a lane, Ivan (Joslin) showed me his nose and he also showed me the quick way around, so I had to get up there and get going.”
