Trenca Produces Season-Best Result at Albany-Saratoga Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FONDA, N.Y. (May 30, 2018) – Joe Trenca recorded his best result of the season last Friday during a Patriot Sprint Tour show at Albany-Saratoga Speedway.

Trenca kicked off the event by advancing from eighth to fifth place during a heat race on the oval in Malta, N.Y.

“The pill draw was tough and passing points is the deal with the Patriot Sprint Tour,” he said. “On the original start of the heat race we were up to second and they called it back. The next start a car got into me and we fell to the tail. We were able to get back to fifth.

The Mucci Motorsports team tried something different with the setup in the dash, in which Trenca maneuvered from sixth to fifth place. He capped the night by charging from 16th to eighth in the A Main.

“In the dash we tried something and I’m glad we got that opportunity,” he said. “We changed the car drastically before the feature. The track was one groove and real physical racing. It was real, real slick. We’re getting somewhat better in the slick so I was pleased with our progress.”

The team had planned on heading south to the Bob Weikert Memorial at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., but the radar kept the team close to its New York base.

“Our plan was to go to Albany-Saratoga and then to Port Royal,” Trenca said. “To make a long story short it looked real bad weather-wise so we stayed close to home. It’s a real long haul for us to go down there with a chance of rain.”

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Fonda Speedway, where Trenca qualified fourth quickest in his group to open the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints event. He then won a heat race from the pole before finishing the night 15th in the A Main.

“We were real tight and the track was fast and locked down,” he said. “We bicycled getting into turn one we were so tight. It took me a couple of laps to figure out how to maintain speed and where to pass them. We fell to 21st and made our way back up to 15th. The last five laps the car got a lot better.”

Trenca will likely take this weekend off before tackling Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions races on June 8 at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., and June 10 at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y.
