Josh Kane Opens 75th Anniversary Fonda Speedway Season with ‘Chill Factor’ Win
FONDA, NY – The 75th anniversary season for Fonda Speedway got underway on Thursday with the ‘Chill Factor’ Enduro.
Josh Kane of Esperance, N.Y., put his name in the record books with a win in the 50-lap event, picking up the $500 top prize. Kane started 22nd in a field of 42 cars and survived the chaotic opening laps on the snow- and ice-covered half-mile venue.
For Kane – a driver in the speedway’s Swagger Factory Apparel Sportsman division – the victory was his second straight in Enduro competition. He won a 50-lap event during the Montgomery County Open weekend last September.
Despite temperatures in the teens, a robust crowd attended the earliest opening day in the speedway’s history.
Only one red flag slowed the event, which ran off quickly in one hour.
Next for Fonda Speedway is the annual Race Car Show at ViaPort Rotterdam March 20-22 during mall hours. Cars move into the mall on Thursday, March 19 and move out at the close of business March 22.
The Track of Champions Fonda Speedway has hosted the best in stock car racing for 75 years. The speedway operates weekly on Saturday nights from April through August plus several special events. Fonda Speedway is located on the Montgomery County Fairgrounds off New York State Thruway Exit No. 28 at 21 S. Bridge Street Fonda, NY 12068.
