More Than 100 Cars Hit the Track at Fonda Speedway Open Practice

FONDA, NY – The stage is set.

On Saturday afternoon, more than 100 racecars filled the pit area at Fonda Speedway for a three-hour Open Practice session. The event was run off on a smooth spring surface at the Track of Champions as the milestone 75th anniversary season gets into full swing.

The Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds saw 14 participants take practice rounds. The Swagger Factory Apparel Sportsman led all divisions with 23 drivers on hand, closely followed by 21 Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman drivers. The Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stocks attracted 12 cars, with 16 Fonda Fair Four Cylinders in the pit area.

The Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Racing Series – which visits Fonda Speedway monthly – drew 14 teams. A pair of Online Performance Parts/Stone Motorsports Street Stocks turned hot laps in preparation for a pair of special events this season.

Attention now turns to Saturday, April 18 when Advanced Restoration & Cleaning presents ‘A 12A Opening Day’ remembering the late Jumpin’ Jack Johnson. Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds headline the program with a 32-lap event paying $4,012 to the winner. Swagger Factory Apparel Sportsman race 25 laps with a $1,212 top prize. Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stocks compete for $812 to win after 20 laps. Also on the program: Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman and Fonda Fair Four Cylinders. Points begin for all classes.

Early pit pass sales get underway at noon. Pit gates open at 2 p.m., with grandstand gates unlocked at 3 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 5 p.m. and racing gets underway at 6 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $22 (Adults) and $20 (Seniors ages 65 and above). Kids 11 and under are FREE.

Infield drive-in admission is $95 and includes four passes.
