WARNER, HOLLENBECK, & INGERSOLL TAKE WINS AT FONDA BEFORE RAIN CANCELS THE REMAINDER OF THE RACING PROGRAM

By: Ron Szczerba

Fonda, NY – A great crowd was on hand for Fan Appreciation Night presented by Shepherd Communication & Security at the Fonda Speedway on Saturday evening but unfortunately rain came in during the Bill Ag Modified Match Races and cancelled the remainder of the racing program.

Feature races that were completed were the Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman won by Corky Warner and the Fonda Fair Four Cylinder, DOHC won by Jay Ingersoll and SOHC by Ken Hollenbeck. Defending Track Champion Alex Yankowski won two rounds of the Bill Ag Modified Match Races when the rain came in and caused the remainder of the racing program be cancelled.

The remainder of the Bill Ag Match Races will be held on Saturday, August 2 while the Amsterdam Truck Center Modified, Swagger Factory Apparel Sportsman, and Leatherstocking Credit Union features will all be rescheduled as qualifying was already complete.

Pastor Greg Nitz started opening ceremonies with a prayer followed by Amanda Aiello who sang the National Anthem.

The 15-lap Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. feature started with Jimmy Beach and Lance Hill on the front row with Hill taking the early lead. Beach got out of shape in turn two on lap two, overcorrected and slid sideways, with other cars piling in afterwards, causing the track to be blocked and the red flag to come out.

Hill continued to lead with sixth place starter Corky Warner the new second place car on lap two after getting by Mason Gray for the spot. Warner took the lead on the inside of turn two on lap nine and led the remaining laps for his first win of the 2025 season and the second of his career in the division in the Carols Transportation #797 followed in the top five by Gray, Bobby Rhinehardt, Hill, and Josh Persse.

“It’s awesome,” Warner said after the win. “We put a lot of work in this off season and this Bicknell has been awesome. Thankfully, our starting spot put us in a good spot. Helping everybody, you learn a lot, dad gets a little upset sometimes when I ask a lot of questions but that’s what it means right here we got it done.”

Kerrie Hollenbeck led the 12-lap Fonda Fair Four Cylinder feature until Jay Ingersoll took over the lead with two laps to go in the feature event. Ingersoll was slowed by a flat tire early in the event but was able to get it changed and restarted at the rear of the eight car field. He led the remaining two laps for the DOHC win while third place finisher Ken Hollenbeck won in the SOHC class. Kerrie Hollenbeck finished second overall while Josh Reome and Wayne Russell Jr. finished in the fourth and fifth positions overall.

“Having to pit for a flat tire like we did lit a fire under my butt,” Ingersoll said after his win. “I used a lap car as a pick and it was a good race, I’m good.”

“It’s fun,” Hollenbeck said after the win. “Not very fun when the same car gets the win though.”

Fonda Speedway will be back in action on Wednesday, July 2 with the Firecracker 50 presented by Holmes & Kugler Towing featuring the Bob Hilbert Short Track Super Series (STSS) Modifieds along with the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman, the Online Performance/Stone Motorsports Street Stocks, and the Fonda Fair Four Cylinders. Starting time will be 7:15 p.m.
