Trenca Captures Two Top Fives During Patriot Sprint Tour Night at Fonda Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FONDA, N.Y. (Oct. 2, 2019) – Joe Trenca earned two top fives on the same night for the first time in his career last Friday at Fonda Speedway, which hosted a make-up race prior to a full race program for the Patriot Sprint Tour.

“The first feature the track was pretty fast and there wasn’t much passing,” he said. “We could have been a little bit better, but we learned from the first feature to the second feature. I’m glad we were able to make the right adjustments.”

The Mucci Motorsports driver placed fifth in the make-up feature to kick off the night. That secured a runner-up result in the Patriot Sprint Tour championship standings.

“Davie Franek and the guys on their team did a great job to win the title,” he said. “Our season started off decent and got slow toward the middle, but we really turned up the wick the last month and a half or two months. We were contending for wins and finishing up front.”

Trenca continued to run well during the night show on Friday as he won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That gave him a strong starting position and Trenca capitalized by battling for a top five throughout the feature before garnering a fourth-place result. It was his 11th top five of the season.

“We could have won the second feature,” he said. “We got to second with four laps to go, but as soon as we passed for second there was a caution. We chose to put a hard tire on before the race and it took three or four laps for the tire to come in. On that caution we went back to third and when we went back green with the tire not being hot it cost us a position. I feel if the caution didn’t come out we would have had another one.”

Trenca will take this weekend off before tackling a Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints race at Fulton Speedway in Fulton, N.Y., on Oct. 12.
