Trenca Rallies to Overcome Pill Draw at Fonda Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FONDA, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2015) – A high pill draw to begin the night put Joe Trenca behind the eight ball for the remainder of it last Friday at Fonda Speedway.

Trenca drew one of the highest numbers, which lined him up on the inside of the last row of a Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints heat race.

“The draw is everything and it just didn’t go in our favor,” he said. “The track was a little different than normal. It was locked down and wide open without much passing. So the draw didn’t help us out.”

The Mucci Motorsports driver advanced from ninth to seventh place in a heat race, which missed locking into the feature by only one position. That relegated Trenca to the B Main, which he won to transfer into the 19th starting position for the main event.

“We were really good in clean air,” he said. “When we got in dirty air the car was too tight. On the restarts that really hurt us. Plus, we never got to restart on the top which hurt us because we were better on the top. There wasn’t a ton of passing overall.”

Trenca maneuvered to a 13th-place result, which marked his 23rd top 15 of the season.

“I got a spot every couple of laps,” he said. “I think we could have been top 10 if we didn’t snug up the car, but we learned from what we did and we’ll move on to the next race.”

Trenca will take this weekend off before resuming action on Oct. 6 at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y., with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.
