FloRacing adds promoter Brett Deyo’s Short Track Super Series, Fonda and Georgetown speedways, to 2021 live broadcast schedule

Deal brings over 50 Northeast big-block/small-block modified events to FloRacing subscribers

AUSTIN, Texas (March 3, 2021) – FloSports, a leading sports streaming and original content network, today announced an agreement with BD Motorsports Media’s Brett Deyo to live-stream the race promoter’s Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled by Sunoco (STSS) events and action at Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway and Georgetown (Del.) Speedway.

The deal brings over 50 Northeast big-block/small-block modified events to the 2021 broadcast schedule on FloRacing, the industry-leading grassroots motorsports digital-only platform. Fans of Deyo’s series and tracks will have access to every event broadcast — as well as all FloSports content and the many motorsports offerings on the FloRacing vertical — with a $150 annual subscription to FloRacing.

A part of the deal that all parties agreed as being integral was the inclusion of Dirt Track Digest TV, which has streamed STSS events on a pay-per-view basis in recent years and will continue to produce all the broadcasts for FloRacing.

Deyo’s Short Track Super Series headlines the latest addition to the FloRacing lineup. An ever-growing tour for big-block and small-block modifieds since its birth in 2014, the STSS is split into North and South regions that boast 11- and 10-race schedules, respectively, and separate points funds. The South region visits eight tracks in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania beginning with Georgetown’s March 12-13 Melvin L. Joseph Memorial Weekend while the North region races at 10 tracks in New York and Pennsylvania starting May 11 at Accord (N.Y.) Speedway.

Highlighting the STSS schedules are a pair of big-money fall weekends that rank as two of the Northeast’s richest big-block/small-block modified events: the North region’s $53,000-to-win Fonda 200 on Sept. 16-18 at the historic half-mile Fonda Speedway and the South region’s $50,000-to-win Speed Showcase 200 Weekend on Oct. 14-16 at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway.

Other major STSS events include the North region’s season-ending American Racer Cup Short Track Super Nationals Weekend on Oct. 8-9 at Afton (N.Y.) Speedway and Georgetown’s Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend on Oct. 29-30 that serves as the South region’s points finale.

Also streaming on FloRacing will be all the weekly events Deyo promotes at Fonda and Georgetown. Fonda’s 2021 schedule headlines the big-block/small-block modified division for its regular Saturday-night shows and includes 21 race dates beginning with its season opener on April 17 while Georgetown, a sprawling half-mile oval near the Delaware and Maryland beaches, hosts a special-event schedule of 11 race dates spread over nine events from March through October.

All FloRacing broadcasts also include coverage of each race program’s support divisions, including the STSS’s companion North and South tours for the 602 Crate Sportsman class. Georgetown’s schedule includes events for the Super Late Model division on April 15 and during the Oct. 29-30 Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend.

“Our partnership with FloRacing is a ‘win, win, win’ situation,” said Deyo, a Delaware resident who has become one of the Northeast’s busiest dirt-track promoters. “It’s a game-changer for our racers, tracks and sponsors, all of whom will benefit from the massive exposure and viewership FloRacing brings. The (broadcast) quality our viewers have become accustomed to will remain in place with the Dirt Track Digest TV team staying on board for production, but the big bonus for our fans is the annual subscription price of $150 for FloRacing that makes it very affordable to watch our events.”

BD Motorsports Media LLC Fonda Speedway Promotional Agreement Extended Through October 2023

FONDA, NY – The partnership continues.

On Wednesday night (Jan. 13), members of the Montgomery County Agricultural Society – led by President Richard Kennedy – voted to extend the Fonda Speedway promotional agreement with BD Motorsports Media LLC for an additional two years.

The current BD Motorsports Media management team will remain in place at the Track of Champions through, at minimum, October 31, 2023. The original three-year agreement was slated to end this October.

“The Montgomery County Agricultural Society board members have been excellent partners and we are thrilled to continue working with them at Fonda Speedway,” Brett Deyo said. “Even through a very trying 2020 season, we were able to move forward and give our competitors a place to race and fans the ability to attend a limited number of events in-person and watch every race live on Dirt Track Digest TV.”

Since acquiring the keys to the facility in the fall of 2018, the speedway has seen numerous upgrades including all new concession equipment, a new sound system, painting and other clean-up projects, a pit-area reworking/leveling, lap counter renovation and most recently a complete resurfacing of the speedway with fresh clay. The total investment into the facility in two years tops $150,000.

The 2019 season was an overwhelming success story with more than 4,000 fans attending the first ‘Dollar Night’ increasing crowds and car counts and the return of the famed ‘Fonda 200’ paying $53,000 to win among the highlights.

“We are hoping for relaxed New York State COVID restrictions this season, so we are able to regain the momentum and positive direction we built in 2019,” Deyo said. “We’ve got a great team in place at Fonda with Jamie and Denise Page, Angela Hanson, Michael Parillo, Craig Hanson and every one of our staff members who have gone above and beyond on race night and during the week.”

Despite regulations limiting fan attendance in ’20, Fonda Speedway was able to complete a partial schedule that began in mid-June. A point fund of more than $16,000 was distributed to competitors at year-end.

The ’21 season is scheduled to get underway on Saturday, April 10 with Open Practice followed by the Palmer’s Service Center Season Opener a week later, on April 17.

Weekly divisions include Modifieds, Crate 602 Sportsman, Limited Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Four Cylinder Cruisers.

Plans have been announced for the Fonda 200 weekend Sept. 16-18 with the Fonda 200 paying $53,000 to the winner and $1,000 just to take the green flag.

Since 1953, the ‘Track of Champions’ Fonda Speedway has hosted the best in stock car racing. Under the management of BD Motorsports Media LLC, the speedway will operate weekly on Saturday nights from April through August plus several special events. Fonda Speedway is located on the Montgomery County Fairgrounds off New York State Thruway Exit No. 28 at 21 S. Bridge Street Fonda, NY 12068.

FONDA SPEEDWAY 2020 SEASON IN REVIEW

By: Ron Szczerba

Fonda, NY – Suffering through a challenging 2020 due to New York State-imposed COVID-19 regulations, the Fonda Speedway managed to hold a total of 11 racing events, some of them on Sunday and weekday evenings getting away from the traditional Saturday evening racing programs trying to get races in.

2020 was the second season of leadership at the “Track of Champions” by Brett Deyo and his BD Motorsports Media LLC management team. Opening day for the 2020 season turned into “opening days” with the first racing events of the season taking place on Saturday and Sunday June 13 & 14.

Only a few events were staged with fans in attendance, either in the grandstands or on the infield in a drive-in type setting, but because of Dirt Track Digest TV there was pay per view available for every racing event in 2020. One unique aspect of the infield drive-in was that the fans in attendance on the infield were able to celebrate with the winning drivers up close and personal near the Fuccillo Automotive Group Mike Cole Memorial Victory Lane.

2020 SEASON SUMMARY

At the conclusion of the 2020 racing season there have been a total of four different drivers winning a track title in a total of seven championship seasons at Fonda.

2020 MILESTONES

STEWART FRIESEN – moved into fourth place on the All-Time Sportsman-Modified Win List at Fonda with a total of 68 victories coming in 10 winning seasons, the first one coming on 7/27/2010 and his last on 8/15/2020. The top three ahead of Friesen are Jack Johnson with 149, Lou Lazzaro with 113, and Dave Lape with 99.

NICK STONE – moved into second place on the All-Time Pro Stock Win List at Fonda with 53 while Kenny Gates tops the win list with 83.

BOB JAMES – was honored by Fonda Speedway promoter Brett Deyo on the evening of the Hondo Classic event in July. James was in attendance for the race that evening and was honored during pre-race ceremonies.

Pre-race ceremonies began that evening with the invocation by Ed Biittig Sr. who stood alongside Bob James who was in a wheelchair on victory lane.

“Ladies & gentleman watching this race tonight on DTD TV this is a very tough night for me and many others,” Biittig started his invocation saying. “This guy right here (Bob James or Bobco as he is known to so many who was next to Ed in a wheelchair) has given us 30 years of more than anyone could ask for. I want people to know that what the fans and others have done with all of their prayers has kept Bob with us.”

“Brett & Heather Deyo renaming the perch up there, it’s so very important to look at this, Bob is a special human being,” Ed continued to say. “This place is the Track of Champions and you Bob are one of those champions. We think the world of you Bob.”

“We wanted to do a little something special here along with the Hondo race,” Fonda Speedway promoter Brett Deyo said. “The perch up there on top of the grandstand has been the official tower and home to Bobco Video for many, many years. You have captured so many moments here at the Track of Champions documenting history and you are part of that history.”

“Tonight, and for the remainder of time here at the Fonda Speedway the perch up there is going to be known as the Bobco Video Tower in your honor so thank you for everything you’ve done to preserve the history of the Fonda Speedway.”

“Thank you very much,” Bob James said afterwards. “I appreciate what you’ve done for me, 30 years of racing events plus motorsports events at the Fonda Fair, I’ve taken a lot of videos and have enjoyed it all.”

James’ passing in September of this year was a huge loss to the racing community and to the Fonda Speedway.

ANTHONY PERREGO – broke the track record at Fonda with a lap of 18.12 seconds on 9/20/2020, the previous record held by Bobby Varin of 18.136 seconds set on 4/11/2009.

BRETT MORTENSEN – with his Track Championship in the Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman division in 2020, he joined his brother MARK MORTENSEN (2011 Fonda Speedway 602 Sportsman Track Champion) as one of only two brother combinations to ever win Track Championships at the Fonda Speedway.

The other brother combination to do the same feat was KEN HOLLENBACK (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 all in SOHC) and KERRIE HOLLENBACK (2013 DOHC) who won Track Championships in the Four Cylinder/Cruiser at Fonda.

PERREGO INVADES FONDA AND TAKES HOME THE $3,500 MONTGOMERY COUNTY OPEN

By: Ron Szczerba

Fonda, NY – Anthony Perrego has had a lot of success at his home track the Orange County Fair Speedway with feature wins and championships but with only occasional visits to the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway has not seen the success that he would have liked. That all changed on Sunday evening when he took the Superior Remodeling #44 Bicknell car to the Fuccillo Automotive Group Mike Cole Memorial Victory Lane for his first career win at Fonda.

“I learned something tonight,” Perrego told victory lane announcer Mimi Lazzaro in victory lane. “Once I got by the lap traffic, I stayed on the bottom in turn four and I had a real good race car tonight.”

Perrego also turned a fast lap of 18.12 in heat race number one which surpassed the track record of Bobby Varin back on 4/11/2009 of 18.136. Perrego’s lap was turned with sail panels on his Sunoco Modified while Varin’s was with the traditional body style so this will be noted as such in the Fonda Speedway record book.

Over 130 cars filled the pit area at Fonda on Sunday for the final race of the 2020 season with other winners Bobby Hackel IV (Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman), Luke Horning (Algonkin Motel Pro Stocks), Hunter Sanchez (Robert’s Towing & Recovery Street Stocks), Ken Hollenbeck (SOHC) and Josh Kane (DOHC) (Four Cylinder Cruiser) visiting victory lane on Montgomery County Open Night.

Crystal Smith of Ballston Spa was the winner of $808 in the evening’s 50/50 drawing.

Mimi Lazzaro started opening ceremonies just before the racing event went live on Dirt Track Digest TV saying “Beautiful day for racing today but unfortunately it is with heavy hearts as our videographer Bob James passed away this week after a long battle with cancer.”

Ed Biittig Sr. then gave the invocation before the racing program got started and touched on the life of a dear friend of his Bob “Bobco” James.

“This year, 2020, has been a season that nobody will ever forget,” Biittig Sr. said. “To add into all of the losses that have taken place this year we now add the name of Bob James who has done so much for racing. Bob started videoing racing events long before we had the equipment that we have today.”

“I heard someone say that he passed away at 5:00 a.m. in the morning, that was usually the time that he finished doing his videos after a night of racing to put together a finished product,” Biittig continued to say. “At any given time if you needed something, Bob would drop everything to help you out. I stopped to see Bob’s mother and gave her a photo of the “Bob James Terrace” on top of the Fonda Speedway covered grandstands and she was taken back that we thought so much of her son to do that for him.”

“But that is what racing people do, that is who we are, we are a different breed,” Biittig Sr. said in conclusion. “It is my firm belief that tonight Bob James is videoing a race with Lou Lazzaro on the front row.”

A moment of silence was observed for Bob James before Mimi Lazzaro did a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.

A redraw placed Billy Decker and Bobby Varin on the front row for the $3,500 to win Sunoco Modified feature event with an early caution coming out with no laps completed for Darren Smith who was in the inside front stretch wall. Smith was not injured but was done for the evening at that point.

On the original restart, Decker took the lead with fourth place starter Anthony Perrego and third place starter Adam McAuliffe the new second and third place cars after getting by Varin for the positions. A restart for a yellow flag on lap seven proved to be beneficial for Perrego as he took the lead at the drop of Joe Kriss’ green flag.

Jessica and Stewart Friesen who started 11th and 13th respectively were making moves to the front by that point in the race as well with Jessica in the fourth position and Stewart just behind in fifth. Perrego held a straightaway advantage by lap 10 and at the halfway point in the 30-lap event the top five consisted of Perrego, Decker, McAuliffe, Jessica Friesen, and Stewart Friesen.

One lap passed the hallway point McAuliffe made his move to the second position after getting by Decker with Stewart Friesen getting by his wife Jessica for the fourth position. While Perrego was battling lap traffic over the remaining laps with a comfortable lead, Stewart Friesen’s car seemed to get better and better as he passed cars one by one in the late stages of the event.

As Perrego took the checkered flag for the victory, Stewart Friesen was passing McAuliffe for the second position which he would do on the final lap with the top five at the finish consisting of Perrego, Stewart Friesen, McAuliffe, Jessica Friesen, and 12th place starter Josh Hohenforst.

“My car was a little tight all night long, but we were one of the better turning cars tonight and that is what got us the win,” Perrego said in victory lane.

The 25-lap $1,000 to win Swagger Factory Apparel feature began with 2020 Track Champion Chad Edwards on the pole after a draw for position with Edwards taking the lead at the drop of the green flag. Bobby Hackel IV started the event in the fourth position and was up to second by lap three after getting by Adam Pierson for the spot.

By lap seven Edwards was in lap traffic and that continued to lap 12 when the race really started heating up for the lead between Edwards and Hackel. Hackel took the lead in lap traffic on lap 12 before he and Edwards swapped the position once per lap for the next three circuits. Hackel was the race leader when the caution came out on lap 15 with Edwards, Tim Hartman Jr., Pierson, and 12th place starter Cody Clark in the top five with 13th place starter Mark Mortensen just behind in sixth.

From that point on Hackel and Edwards spent many laps side by side with Edwards regaining the lead on lap 20. One final caution slowed the field with two laps to go as Griffen Mansmith stopped on the track with a flat tire but as soon as the yellow was thrown, he drove into the pit area.

On the restart, Edwards maintained the lead until the final lap when Hackel was able to get by for his first career win at the “Track of Champions” in the division in the Killer Crate #97. Edwards, Hartman Jr., Clark, and Mortensen completed the top five in the event.

The 20-lap Algonkin Motel Pro Stock feature was also $1,000 to win event with Jim Normoyle leading at the drop of the green flag from his pole position start. Third place starter Devon Camenga took over the number one position on lap two with Luke Horning third on lap three after starting seventh.

On the next lap Horning was the new second place car after getting by Normoyle and on lap six on the outside of turns three and four Horning was the new race leader after getting by Camenga for the spot.

Fourth place starter Kenny Gates was the new second place car on lap seven and for the remainder of the event it was a see saw battle between Horning and Gates with Horning running the outside lane while Gates ran his traditional groove hugging the bottom of the track.

Horning and Gates were side by side for the lead with five laps to go in the event, but Horning was able to hold on to the spot at that point in lap traffic. The caution came out with one lap to go as Chuck Dumblewski drove to the infield on the front stretch setting up a one lap dash to the checkered flag.

Horning led the rest of the way in the Catalytic Recovery/West End Towing/L/M Mason sponsored #2H while under heavy pressure from Gates for his first win of the season and the 21st of his career in the division over Gates, Camenga, Bill Knapp, and 2020 track champion Nick Stone.

“At one point starter Joe Kriss was showing me that I had a big lead with his flags but then he stopped doing that and I said to myself Joe don’t do this to me,” Horning said in victory lane. “When Kenny (Gates) showed me his nose I knew that I had to stay on the bottom because I didn’t think that he would go around me on the outside.”

The 15-lap $500 to win Robert’s Towing & Recovery Street Stock feature began with outside pole position starter Hunter Sanchez taking the lead at the drop of the green flag. Sanchez led every lap to go on to win by a straightaway in his first career win at Fonda over Zach Sorrentino, John Devine, Jason Samrov, and Matt Mosher.

Josh Kane led the first six laps of the Four Cylinder Cruiser feature until 2020 track champion Ken Hollenbeck took over the lead on lap seven with a pass in between turns three and four. Brandon Tyler challenged Hollenbeck for the victory until a side by side restart after a lap nine caution when Hollenbeck pushed Tyler all the way to the wall in turn four to protect his lead and went on to the win in the SOHC while Kane was declared the winner in the DOHC.

The 2020 season at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway is now completed but please continue to look on Facebook, Twitter, or the Fonda Speedway website for future plans at the speedway.

FONDA, NY – Take two!

The final curtain will come down on the 2020 season at Fonda Speedway Sunday, Sept. 20, putting a period on a shortened campaign at the Track of Champions. The event had been scheduled for the 13th but afternoon showers forced the postponement of the event by seven days.

After finishing up the point season on Aug. 15, one final event takes place next Sunday: the Montgomery County Open which will be broadcast live on Dirt Track Digest TV (www.dirttrackdigest.tv).

Due to continuously extended New York State regulations, the grandstands will remain closed for this event.

Sunoco Modifieds will headline the ‘Montgomery County Open’ utilizing sail panels for this event, which offers an increased $3,500 to the winner for 30 laps. Rules have been relaxed for this non-point show, which will feature a draw for heat-race starting positions and redraw of top qualifiers for the main event.

This will be only the third time since BD Motorsports Media LLC took over the promotion of Fonda Speedway that sail panels are permitted on Modifieds.

Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman are set for a $1,000-to-win, 25-lap event, joined by the Algonkin Motel Pro Stocks racing 20 laps and earning a cool grand for their efforts.

Roberts Towing & Recovery Street Stocks battle in an event offering $500 to the winner and a rules package allowing cars legal to compete at neighboring Lebanon Valley, Albany-Saratoga and Glen Ridge to join the Fonda regulars.

Four Cylinder Cruisers – declaring Single- and Dual-Cam winners – complete the Sunday showdown.
