Wet Conditions Cancel April 13 Open Practice at Fonda Speedway

FONDA, NY – Continued wet weather and extremely saturated grounds have prompted the cancelation of Wednesday night’s (April 13) Open Practice at Fonda Speedway.

The decision was made to scrap the once-rescheduled test and tune on Tuesday after evaluating the soaked clay at the legendary half-mile oval.

“We want to make sure we get the season off on the right foot,” Fonda promoter Brett Deyo said. “The track crew worked to get equipment on the surface, and it remains very, very wet. It is in everyone’s best interest to pull the plug and wait for some drying time.”

Weather permitting, attention now turns to Palmer’s Service Center Opening Night on Saturday, April 16 featuring the first points-paying event for the Sunoco Modifieds, Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, Montgomery County Office for Aging Limited Sportsman, Algonkin Motel Pro Stocks and Fonda Fair Four Cylinders.

Pits will be open starting at 1 p.m. for technical inspection. The pits will be cleared at 2:30 p.m. for pit pass sales. Gates officially unlock at 3 p.m., with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.

Fonda Practice Postponed, No On-Track Activities This Weekend; April 13 Date Set

TEAL SUITS SAFETY TEAM TRAINS AT DKM FABRICATION

By: Ron Szczerba

Hagaman, NY – On Saturday morning March 5 the Teal Suits Safety Team serving the Fonda, Utica Rome, and Glen Ridge Motorsports Park went through training at the DKM Fabrications facility in Hagaman, NY. It was the third time that Terri Mohrman and her team have trained at the DKM facility. “Kudos to DKM for allowing us to come into their shop in order for us to go through our training session,” Mohrman said. “Cars in the shop are in different stages of completion so it makes it easier to show the different parts of the car to our Safety Team.”

2022 will be the 39th year that Mohrman has served on the Safety Team at local speedways, and she appreciates every member of her team for the help that they provide. “Because I have been around for so long, I am recognized more so than many of the other people on our team,” Mohrman said. “But I want to assure them that they are all a very important part of the team and I appreciate all of their efforts.”

Ninety percent of the people on the Safety Team have been trained and handpicked by Terri so she feels as though that is a big advantage to her. “I am fortunate that I have the cream of the crop working with me,” she said. “I know who I have and who I am working with and that is important. We’re not here trying to change the world; we are here to do the best job that we can to protect our drivers.”

THE EVOLUTION OF THE TEAL SUITS

One year at the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park during an Enduro event, there was an accident where a car didn’t go at the start of the race and was rear ended by another car. It changed the way that Terri and one of her team that was with her that evening Bonnie Reuss looked at keeping themselves safe.

“The car took a hard hit, and it was the only time that I have ever cut a race car,” Mohrman said. “Bonnie was in the car with the patient, and I was working with the patient from the outside of the car when we both looked at each other at the time and said that we smelled gas. There we were in nylon t-shirts and jeans and at that point I said that we could never let that happen again.”

Terri and Bonnie went up and down pit road and asked the drivers and teams if they would be interested in donating in order for them and their Safety Team to get the proper suits, similar to what the drivers wear, in order to protect them properly. “Twenty-nine people came back with donations in order for us to get five suits,” Mohrman said. “All of the people that donated have their names or business logos embroidered on the suits to thank them for their contribution.”

Working with Michael Jackson of Swagger Factory Apparel the suits were ordered with a little different color from the rest. “Everybody wears red, yellow, or orange so we decided on teal green,” Mohrman said. “The name came to us from Michael Jackson after his accident when he thanked the Teal Suits and it kind of stuck with us ever since.”

One of the contributors to the purchase of the “Teal Suits” was made by the New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) who also have a program called the “NYSSCA Members Benefit Fund” to help people at the racetrack, whether it be a driver, crew member, or fan, who gets injured at a sanctioned racing event. For NYSSCA members the organization pays out $125 a week for up to 26 weeks with medical documentation.

INTROCUCING THE RESCUE BOA

After seeing a video on the “Resue Boa”, Mohrman had an idea to make her own version of the product which is used in England for rapid extractions. “I had an idea on how to make one and it consisted of a king size bed sheet and a nine-foot strap cut in half,” she said. “This is the first time it is introduced to this area, and it will be used in order to extract a driver without a lot of extra movement.”

First step before the “Rescue Boa” is used is to put a neck brace on the driver. The “Rescue Boa” is marked in the center with red tape and first goes around the neck brace, then twists and goes under the persons arms. Both sides of the strap, which ends up behind the neck, can be lifted while two other people lift underneath the persons legs.

ESI EQUIPMENT TRAINING

While vacationing in Florida last month, Mohrman was able to attend a Safety Training Class given by ESI Equipment Inc. who trains different organizations to understand today’s challenges in fire, EMS, Rescue, Law Enforcement, and other entities according to their website www.esiequipment.com

“While down in Florida I was a guest at the ESI Safety Training class given by John Evans,” she said. “When I found out the class was going to be held, I tried to sign up for it but was told the class was full. Mr. Evans didn’t want to turn me down however because of my enthusiasm on the topic so he allowed me to attend as his guest.”

KEYS TO THE SAFETY TEAMS SUCCESS

Access to the racetrack is key to the Safety Team and communication between the race director, the pace car driver, and the Safety Team is important so that they can respond to an accident. “Two aspects that people don’t realize are a big part of safety at the track are the race director and the pace car driver,” Mohrman said. “The race director can direct the Safety Team to the location of the accident while the pace car driver can let the Safety Team know when it is safe to cross the track if they need to.”

Drivers also play a big part in this as well. “When the race director calls yellow, yellow, yellow, in turn two for example, the drivers need to know that there is gonna be activity going out on the track to the scene of the wreck,” she said. “A lot of times the drivers don’t do their part, same when the red flag comes out. When the red flag comes out don’t worry about catching up to the field, STOP wherever you are on the track!”

MEET THE SAFETY TEAM

Attending the Safety Team training session on Saturday were in no particular order Al Moxham, Andrew Peo, Jeremy Horstmyer, Bonnie Reuss, Dwayne Gallt, Jill Dunham, and Nick Squires. Also helping out this season will be Matt Traudt and John Brisbane who were not able to attend the training session.

2022 will be Andrew Peo’s first full year after being involved a little bit last year. His family has been involved in racing for a while and this is something that he has always wanted to do. He will be primarily at Utica Rome and when needed at Fonda in Fire Safety.

Al Moxham works for state fire and also volunteers at West Winfield. He will be working every Friday at Utica Rome and will be doing multiple shows at Fonda as well in Fire Safety. Moxham actually grew up in Fonda and always went to the Fonda Speedway on Saturday nights. Last year Terri called him needing help at the track one night. After that one-night Terri then asked Al if he wanted to finish out the season and he agreed to do that. 2022 will be Al’s second full year at Fonda and after Nick Squires offered him the Utica Rome position midway through last year he will be back there as well.

Nick Squires started at Fonda when Matt DeLorenzo was the promoter as a corner flagger. After getting as far as he wanted to with that, Squires decided to try something else. He became an EMT at college and now he is in the fire department as well, so he worked his way around the racetrack more or less. Overall, he has been working at the track for eight years and the safety side of it for the last two years. He will be at both Fonda and Utica Rome this year.

2022 will be Jeremy Horstmyer’s fifth full year at Fonda and he will also work part time at Utica Rome. Jeremy never watched a race before, but once Terri did his EMT class she liked what she saw and brought him into the Safety Team, and he is now hooked!

Dwayne Gallt has been a paramedic for 30 years and got his start as track safety at Fonda when Ric Lucia took over the track, starting out on the ambulance. He was then asked by Terri to come and work with her on the infield, and he has been there ever since. He will work on the Safety Team at Fonda full time and fill in as needed at Utica Rome.

Bonnie Reuss met her husband Mike at Fonda and has been involved in the safety side of racing for nine years give or take. Before that she helped on various race cars, working on Tony Pepicelli’s racecar for 15 years gaining her a lot of knowledge on the racecar itself which comes in handy to everyone on the Safety Team. She will be at Fonda, Utica Rome, and Glen Ridge every week.

Jill Dunham has been involved for a few years now and has known Terri for almost 30 years after Terri tested her for Jill’s original EMT. 2022 will be Jill’s fourth year at Fonda and she worked at Utica Rome for the first-time last year.

SOME TAKEAWAYS FROM THE TRAINING SESSION

  1. Track Safety should know where the shutoffs are in the racecar for the ignition and fuel.
  2. When a driver flips over the first thing he wants is to be flipped back upright. The driver should also stay strapped in tight until the car is flipped back upright.
  3. Know how to remove the steering wheel.
  4. There are two types of fire suppression systems, the Cold Fire System, and the Purple K system. Both systems take oxygen away from the fire in order to stop the flames, the Cold Fire system is entirely “green” and will not harm any components on the racecar or the driver. The Purple K system affects drivers that have asthma as it could possibly trigger an asthma attack when it is used.
  5. When removing the fresh air hose from the helmet be sure to hold the helmet while doing it to keep the head stable.
  6. If an airway or access is needed to the drivers mouth the chin part of the helmet will need to be cut out using a special type of blade.
  7. Control of the accident scene is important. One person should be taking control of the scene and should try to keep others at the scene quiet so that too many people are not talking at the same time.
  8. First thing to be done at the scene is to flip up the visor on the driver’s helmet, look at their eyes, and be sure that they are breathing properly.
  9. If the halo or any part of the car needs to be cut protect the Safety Team members and the drivers the best you can from sparks and noise.
  10. Have the proper tools to remove the zeuss buttons and take the seat apart as necessary. A quarter will also work to remove the zeuss buttons if necessary.
  11. In the event of a fire, sweep the flames away from the driver towards the front of the car to allow access to the driver by the Safety Team. Also give the driver a voice as to which way is best in order for them to get out of the car.
  12. Keep people away from the scene who are not in the proper protective clothing.
  13. If a backboard needs to be used have six people on hand to lift and stabilize it.

Written by Chris Moore

FONDA, NY Moving forward.

BD Motorsports Media LLC and Sunoco Race Fuels have extended their partnership for both Fonda and Utica-Rome speedways in New York State.

Sunoco Race Fuels will continue in 2022 as the title sponsor of the headline Modified division at both speedways: Utica-Rome on Fridays and Fonda on Saturdays. The division will be known as the ‘Sunoco Modifieds’ again in ’22.

Sunoco has expanded the reach of its racing fuels line around the world to include all types of professional motorsports and other activities where premium race fuels make a difference.

With its unsurpassed innovations and years of experience, it’s easy to understand why more and more engine builders, racers, tracks, and sanctioning bodies choose Sunoco over all other racing gasoline combined.

As the largest manufacturer of racing gasolines in the world, Sunoco has a 40-year track record of winning performances. Learn more at www.sunocoracefuels.com.

The Sunoco Modifieds are scheduled to take the green on 21 occasions during the ‘22 season at Utica-Rome Speedway.

The F.X. Caprara Car Companies ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ Series, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) on two occasions including the $25,000-to-win ‘New Yorker 50’ and the ‘Ultimate Outlaw 50’ are all marquee events for the Sunoco Modifieds in 2022 at the Route 5 facility.

Savannah, N.Y.’s Matt Sheppard enters the 2022 as the reigning Utica-Rome Sunoco Modified champion over Sheffield, Mass., driver Andy Bachetti and Johnstown, N.Y.’s Rocky Warner.

Fonda Speedway has 19 scheduled Sunoco Modifieds events plus the $53,000-to-win Fonda 200 weekend to close out the season at the ‘Track of Champions.’ Fonda will also feature F.X. Caprara Car Companies ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ races and two visits from the STSS in the ’22 season. The $12,000-to-win Jack Johnson Memorial Montgomery County Open in April also serves as a highlight.

Fonda Speedway saw a rarity in 2021, as Rocky Warner and Duanesburg, N.Y.’s Ronnie Johnson were declared co-champions with a tie atop the season-end points standings.

Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen enters the new season as the F.X. Caprara Car Companies ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ Series champion, after sweeping all five races in ’21.

The partnership between BD Motorsports Media LLC. and Sunoco Race Fuels began in 2018 and has continued to grow. Sunoco Race Fuels is the fuel provider for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series, Del.’s Georgetown Speedway and both Utica-Rome and Fonda speedways.

$105,725 DISTRIBUTED AT THE VERNON DOWNS CASINO HOTEL HONORING COMPETITORS FROM THE FONDA AND UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAYS

By: Ron Szczerba

VERNON, NY – The 2021 racing seasons at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway and the “Home of Heroes” Utica-Rome Speedway were celebrated on Friday evening November 19 at the Vernon Downs Casino Hotel in Vernon, NY. Brett and Heather Deyo of BD Motorsports Media, who promote both racetracks, paid out a total of $105,725 to competitors in all different divisions from both weekly speedways.

There were 350 people in attendance to honor the top ten finishers in weekly division points at both Fonda and Utica-Rome along with the top ten drivers in the Thunder on the Thruway Series, a six-race series between both tracks. Stewart Friesen (Modified) and Matt Janczuk (Sportsman) were also honored for their championships in the American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels. Short Track Super Series announcer Jeff Ahlum emceed the event with a delicious buffet included for all the guests.

The invocation was given by Pastor Gregory Nitz of the Finish Line Chaplaincy who stressed the importance of family and biblical principles.

“It is great to see this turnout tonight,” Brett Deyo said to the crowd. “Everybody is going to be pretty close friends tonight because we jammed everyone in here, but it is awesome to have this many people interested in what we are doing and wanting to be here to celebrate it. It shows that our program is alive and well.”

The event started with the champions in the D & S Landscaping Jr. Slingshots and the Senior Services Insurance All Star Slingshots being recognized following the 2021 season where they were in competition at the Utica-Rome Speedway. Corky Warner (Jr. Slingshots) and Brett Putnam (All Star Slingshots) received $250 and $500 respectively for their titles.

Next up were the Cool Stuff Antiques Four Cylinder Champions at Utica-Rome and the Fonda Fair Four Cylinder Champions from the Fonda Speedway in both the single and dual overhead cam classes. Wayne Russell (SOHC) and Justin Pope (DOHC) were crowned champions at Utica-Rome while Ken Hollenback (SOHC) and Slappy White (DOHC) were the champions at the Fonda Speedway.

Dinner was up next followed by what Jeff Ahlum stated as the “State of the Union” address by BD Motorsports Brett Deyo who said in his own words:

“2019 was a fantastic year at the Fonda Speedway but in 2020 we did whatever we could to keep going. What kind of struck me this year that things were back to normal was the night that we honored Jack Johnson. The crowds were back, the cars were back with almost two hundred cars in the pits that night, and instead of the sheriff coming in to tell me to knock it off he was back helping us park cars because we had so many people coming through the gates. That was a monumental night and it got us back to normal.”

“This year we were able to put Fonda Speedway on Flo Racing and all season there were no less than 8,000 viewers watching. Most nights there were up to 11,000 watching and some nights up to 26,000! It was a huge step in getting exposure for our style of racing for not only the track sponsors but also all the sponsors on your racecars. We showcased the Pro Stock division and how good it is at Port Royal and were able to put the Pro Stocks on the map there with a huge exposure.”

“It was a good season overall at Fonda with good crowds and car counts which were up in both the Sportsman and Four Cylinder divisions. We were able to put together the $53,000 to win “Fonda 200” again am I am proud to announce that we’ll be doing that again in 2022 on September 15-17. We have seventy-three new lights to go up at Utica-Rome and the Fonda Fair Board has also approved new lighting at Fonda as well.”

“Utica Rome was the feel-good story of the year for us, I got to know Gene Cole back when I was writing for the Area Auto Racing News, and we hit it off. Gene started hinting around that Utica-Rome may be available last August, but it took till January of 2021 for me to get the call asking me if I wanted the track. One of the lines that I use as an excuse when I do this crazy stuff is “God hates a coward.”

“I told them we would give it a shot, met with them and decided to change race nights, rules, tires, fuel, and purses. We decided to roll the dice and boy did it turn out great. The first few weeks we had to prove ourselves and show that we were for real on Friday nights. I hate to thank anybody individually because I may forget someone, but Jamie Friesen turned the track around so no more slipping and sliding at Utica-Rome. It is awesome to have a cushion and I think that is one of the reasons we came back so strong.”

“We held some big money races again at Utica Rome and the crowds and car counts went up as the season went on making it a very satisfying deal to have Utica-Rome turn around like it did. In 2022 the All Star 410-Sprints will be back at Utica-Rome for the first time in several years on August 20. The New Yorker on September 4 will feature a $80,000 purse with $25,000 going to the winner.”

“This banquet is the end of a long season for us with a total of eighty events being run. Thanks to Jamie and Denise Page, they do it all, they are so good at rallying people to help them because they are such kind people. We could not do it without them. Another guy that does not get much credit is Craig Hanson who runs the grader at Fonda on Saturday nights while trying to race and keep all his sponsors on his racecar and everyone around him happy. We proved at the Fonda 200 this year that we have a good surface.”

“When I was writing out checks at five o’clock this morning tonight’s point fund totaling $105,725 for two weekly racetracks really hit me. I need to thank American Racer, Lias Tire, and Sunoco Race Fuels but I think the real heroes in all of this are the 50/50 ticket sellers. They did an outstanding job week after week with a $10,000 prize at the Fonda 200. It was amazing week after week seeing what they were able to do to make this all possible. I am very proud of what we were able to pay out tonight, what we were able to do as a group, and I think that we’ve got a brighter future ahead.”

Continuing on with the track championship awards, David Hackett Jr. (Fastline Performance Limited Sportsman at Utica-Rome) and Carter Gibbons (Montgomery County Office for the Aging Inc. at Fonda) were crowned the champions in the Limited Sportsman division in point funds totaling $1,525 at both tracks.

The Next Generation Graphix Pro Stock division at Utica-Rome had a point fund total of $4,900 with $1,000 of it going to Beau Ballard for his championship. When asked about how it felt to win the championship Ballard responded “Pretty damn good. We caught some lucky breaks but did what we had to do, kept our nose to the grindstone and got it done. “We’ll be back next year to go on defense.”

Nick Stone was the recipient of $1,500 out of a total point fund of $5,775 for his third title at Fonda and second in a row in the Algonkin Motel Pro Stock division. “We had a great season,” Stone said to the crowd. “I couldn’t do it without Todd Hoffman and his crew along with all of the guys on my #27 crew. It is a 100% team effort between both teams who do all the work and take all of the stress off of me so that I can concentrate on driving the race car.”

The drivers in the Worthington Industries Crate 602 Sportsman division at Utica-Rome shared a total of $7,350 in their point fund with $1,500 of it going to their 2021 champion Matt Janczuk. “Overall, it was a great year for our team,” Janczuk said. “Thanks to my wife and family, we raced a lot this year, and thanks to Brett Deyo for opening up Utica-Rome again. Utica Rome is in my back yard, and it is where I learned how to race. It was a huge swing for us switching to Teo this year and also from bars to coils but we are already looking forward to 2022.”

Chad Edwards collected $2,000 out of a total point fund of $7,850 for his third title in the Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman division at Fonda and his second title in a row. “It was a great year,” Edwards said. “I have to thank car owner John Kollar who has been in this sport for over 50 years at Fonda and all of my crew. I also have to thank my mom and dad who took out a $10,000 loan in order for me to start my racing career years ago. I remember being young when I started racing but now, I’m in my mid thirties with a lot of young talent coming up.”

The point funds in the Fuccillo Autoplex of Nelliston Thunder on the Thruway Series totaled $11,150 in the Modifieds, $3,025 in the Crate 602 Sportsman, and $2,675 in the Pro Stocks. Stewart Friesen won $4,000 for his title in the Modifieds while Chad Edwards and Nick Stone won $1,000 apiece for their titles in the Crate 602 Sportsman and Pro Stock divisions, respectively.

Stewart Friesen collected $13,250 for his Modified title in the American Racer Cup while Matt Janczuk collected $1,500 for his Crate 602 Sportsman American Racer Cup title.

Matt Sheppard was crowned the Sunoco Modified Track Champion at Utica-Rome for 2021 collecting $6,000 for his efforts in a total point fund of $20,525. For Sheppard it was the fifth title of his career at Utica Rome.

“Utica-Rome has been in my blood for over 20 years,” Sheppard said to the crowd. “Thanks to Brett (Deyo) for opening the track back up this year. I race for a living and sometimes the business side of it takes all the fun out of it and makes it more of a job. I used to race at the Outlaw Speedway on Friday’s which is a couple of hours from home but now I’m racing closer to home at Utica-Rome on Fridays where I have decided to race for fun again.”

For the first time in its 70-year history, the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway had a tie for the Sunoco Modified point championship between Ronnie Johnson and Rocky Warner. The two drivers each earned $10,000 for their point titles in a total point fund at the track of $34,975! For Johnson it was his third championship at Fonda while for Warner it was the second of his career at Fonda.

“When the season started, I didn’t know that we were going to be racing at Fonda,” Johnson said. “The honor that everybody gave my dad, it was a little emotional, my race team and everybody else wanted us to race at Fonda. Right down to a couple of days before opening night it was a 180-degree swing and we decided to race at Fonda. I’m glad that we did, and it feels good to be back home.”

“We weren’t prepared to run at Fonda, we had all big block motors, and it took us up until the end of the season to get a small block,” Johnson continued to say. “I need to thank my entire race team including Chris Persons, Frank Witz, and Gary Mickle who built us a new race shop after my dad got sick and we had to move out of the old shop. Also special thanks to Carl Lamalfa who is here with us tonight. He was my father’s best friend and he used to bring my dad lunch every day.”

“Hats off to my guys who kept me going all season,” Warner said. “It was a great season and great to see Jake (car owner Jake Spraker) go out on top. RJ is the peoples champion but I’m thankful that we have a good following of our own fan wise.”

Both drivers were quick to give credit to Stewart Friesen who finished just five points behind them in the final point standings.

“It is fun racing with Stew,” Johnson said. He reminds me of my father, and he certainly knows his way around Fonda. He is a class act and pushes us to an all-new level.

“Stewart is making us all better at Fonda,” Warner said.

On Thurs.-Sat. Sept. 16-18, history will be made again at the fairgrounds facility.

Steeped with Tradition: Many of the Sport’s Greatest Drivers Have Won the Fonda 200

FONDA, NY – Tradition. A massive payout. And one of the Northeast’s most challenging dirt tracks.

It all comes together Thursday-Sat. Sept. 16-18 at Fonda Speedway with the running of the Fonda 200 presented by Southside Beverage. $53,000 awaits the winner of the 200-lap Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Modified event, with $1,000 reserved to take the green flag.

More than $140,000 in prize money will be distributed for the STSS Modified event alone during the three-day racing festival.

Many of the sport’s most prolific names have triumphed in the Fonda 200.

The first ‘200’ was contested in 1955 with Junior Johnson taking the victory as part of the NASCAR Grand National Series. Three other Fonda 200 events ran as NASCAR events with David Pearson winning in 1966 and ‘the King’ himself Richard Petty taking back-to-back wins in 1967 and 1968.

Steve Danish (’63), Bill Wimble (’64), Lou Lazzaro (’69) and Harry Peek (’70) each took early ‘200’ wins before the event took a 13-year hiatus.

In ’83, Charlie Rudolph picked up his first of two ‘200’ wins with the second coming in ’85. Jimmy Horton won the event twice, once in ’84 and again a decade later in ’94. The iconic Jumpin’ Jack Johnson earned wins in ’86 and ’88, book-ending a Kenny Brightbill triumph in ’87.

Mike Romano earned the 1989 score, one year before Doug Hoffman registered his first of three ‘200’ wins. Hoffman took the checkered in ’90, ’91 and ’01.

Bob McCreadie won back-to-back ‘200s’ in ’92 and ’93. Brett Hearn was a four-time ‘200’ winner, taking the ’95, ’97, ’98 and ’02 events.

Steve Paine took the ’99 edition. Kenny Tremont took his sole ‘200’ win in 2001.

After a 17-year hiatus, BD Motorsports Media LLC brought the 200 back to Fonda in 2019 paying $53,000 to the winner. Stewart Friesen added his name to the list of event winners.

After COVID-19 forced the event’s cancelation in 2020, the Fonda 200 is back in ’21.

Eighteen drivers have registered ‘200’ victories since the race’s inception.  Will the ’21 edition produce winner No. 19?

The action kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 16 with the Sunoco Modified ‘Underdog 33’ paying $2,000 to the winner for 33 laps. The ‘Underdog’ is open to any Modified driver without a feature win at any venue in 2021. All other divisions will take part in open practice on Thursday.

On Friday, Sept. 17, STSS Modifieds will take part in 15-lap qualifying events. Also on the Friday program are CRSA Sprint Cars, Algonkin Motel Pro Stocks ($1,000 to win), Street Stocks ($500 to win) and Fonda Fair Four Cylinders.
